Mountainous relief, often unreachable, lot of rain and high temperature favoured a very important biodiversity. Dominica nourishes today many rare and endemic species of animals and plants.
In the middle of a tropical and exuberant vegetation, we count 200 species of fern, many orchids, 22 endemic plants. Near 10 species of birds were numbered!

In order to protect this patrimony, the Morne Trois-Piton National Park was created in 1975 (1st UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Eastern Caribbean), followed by Cabrits National Park in 1986. There are also 2 Forest Reserves and La Soufrière Marine Reserve.
